Tadhg lifts spirits in Kells with award win
This is the 10th year of the Meath Chronicle Cumann na mBunscol Spirit of the Final awards and last Wednesday Tadhg Morgan from St Colmcille's SNS in Kells became the fourth recipient of the overall Mikey Leddy Memorial award following his magnificent performance in the Boys Div 1 final against Ratoath SNS in November.
At a special prizegiving evening where the school honoured pupils who participated in the Cumann na mBunscol Cross-Country Championships and presented the players from the successful football team with their medals Tadhg was announced as the overall winner of the Mikey Leddy Memorial Spirit of the Final.
Mikey Leddy won a Spirit of the Final award in 2015 when part of the St Anne's team that lost out to Gaelscoil Eanna in one of the Primary Schools deciders.
Mikey Leddy was tipped to go onto great things in the sporting arena, but tragically the talented GAA player with Navan O'Mahonys and soccer star with Johnstown FC lost his life in an accident on holidays in 2019 at aged just 15 years.
In honour of Mikey's memory the Meath Chronicle and Cumann na mBunscol, along with Mikey's family, have presented the Mikey Leddy Memorial Spirit of the Final award to the one player from the football finals who displayed the type of determination, camaraderie, attitude and drive that makes them stand out.
This year Tadhg Morgan was not only the best player on the field for St Colmcille's, scoring 4-2 from midfield, but he also inspired his teammates around him to remain focused and determined. His compassion and consideration for his beaten opponents at the final whistle was also commendable and he was a fitting winner.
Tadhg accepted his award from Mikey Leddy's mother Aisling and he received a huge round applause from his school mates at the well attended presentation evening.
Previous winners of the Mikey Leddy Memorial Spirit of the Final award are Oldcastle's Thomas Sheridan (2019), St Oliver Plunkett NS's Joe Kearney (2021) and Cortown NS's Dara Loughran (2022).
