‘We achieved a great deal over these last 12 months’

Mayor of Navan, Cllr Eddie Fennessy

As another year comes to a close and we approach 2024, it always seems appropriate that we take time to reflect on the year gone by. 2023 saw many events and activities that helped to promote the town. We achieved a great deal over the last 12 months by working together with businesses and the local community.

We delivered a number of significant local projects during 2023, including the further enhancement of the town bus service, the conservation and management of Navan's Medieval Town Walls, the expansion of the local cycle network, the continuation of the Navan 2030 Scheme, the delivery of a Park and Ride facility at Moatlands, the Boyne to Lakelands Greenway and the introduction of a bike rental scheme.

A number of significant projects are also at various stages of planning and delivery, some of which will commence this year. The most significant of these is the LDR4 new road and bridge over the River Blackwater. Work will commence early in the new year and it is expected to take 18 months to complete.

Another exciting project for Navan is the redevelopment of the old St Pat's Study Hall at St Finian's Terrace. When completed the site will be home to the Meath County Archive and an outdoor auditorium. The part 8 public consultation process has completed on this project and a funding application is expected to be made this year.

As we start 2024, I want to encourage people to continue to shop local as much as possible, if buying online, please try and use local and Irish outlets. Ninety-two percent of businesses across Ireland and in Meath are micro and small homegrown companies, many of which are family owned. Supporting local businesses is also supporting local jobs and the local economy.

It goes without saying that Navan is a wonderful place to live, to visit, to work and to do business in, and I am proud to represent all the people of Navan in my role as Mayor. I look forward to seeing our town continue to grow and prosper in 2024.

On behalf of the County Council, I would like to wish all the citizens of Meath, at home and abroad, a Healthy and Prosperous 2023. Athbhliain faoi Mhaise Daoibh go leir, a chairde.
