Woman (80s) killed in road traffic collision to be laid to rest

A WOMAN in her eighties who became the first fatality on Meath roads this year following a collision between a car and a minibus near Boardsmill last Friday will be laid to rest this week.

Ann Bacon (nee Doyle) died following the fatal collision which occurred shortly before midday on 5th January at Scarrif Bridge on the R156 Trim to Ballivor Road. She was the driver and sole occupant of the car.

A man in his 50s, who was driving the minibus, and a passenger in the vehicle were taken to Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar with minor injuries and it is understood they were released later that day.

Trim Gardai are investigating the collision and are appealing for any road users who may have witnessed the accident or anyone who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage from the area between 11.15am and 12.15pm on Friday 5th January, to please contact Trim Garda Station on (046) 9481540 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

It is understood the deceased woman was a native of Dublin but had been living in Ballivor. Her Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday at 1pm in Church of The Immaculate Conception, Clondalkin Village, followed by Cremation at The Temple, Newlands Cross Cemetery.

Mrs Bacon was predeceased by her husband Willie and is survived by her children Suzanna, Liam, Seamus and Olga, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, relatives and friends.

Meanwhile, Leixlip Gardai are investigating a fatal collision at Cloncurry, Enfield, on Tuesday of last week where a woman died and her two children were injured.

The crash, between a car and a van, occurred on the R148 between Enfield and Kilcock on the Meath-Kildare border on 2nd January.

Two young children who were also travelling in the car were taken to Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) at Crumlin where their conditions were described that night as serious but stable. The man was who driving the van was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Gardai issued an appeal for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R148 in between Enfield and Kilcock between 6pm and 6.30pm on Tuesday 2nd January 2024 are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí,” they said.
