Call to open up the Navan’s Meeting of the Waters amenity

The Meeting of the Waters at Poolboy Bridge in Navan could be a great amenity in the centre of Navan, if it was opened up with better visibility, according to Cllr Emer Tóibin.

She has called for a plan to successfully develop the naturally occurring beauty spot at the confluence of the Boyne and the Blackwater into a public amenity .

“It needs to be opened out with better visibility and access to the two rivers.

“If the briars, scrub and vegetation along the rivers' edges were removed it would really improve it,” she said.

Cllr Tóibin called on Meath County council to get together the various stakeholders in the area, including the OPW, to see how this could be done.

“Trim has done a great job of opening up the river in the town and it would be great if we could do this,” she said.

She was told the removal of vegetation along the banks of the Boyne and Blackwater Rivers are under the remit of Waterways Ireland and the OPW. A number of years ago Meath County

Council enhanced this area to provide an amenity and viewing spot at the confluence of the two rivers at Poolboy Bridge.
