Trim school edged out in final thriller

Maynooth Education Campus: 5 – 03

Scoil Mhuire Trim: 1 – 12.

The Leinster A Football Final that took place last week (11th January) in Baconstown GAA Club Enfield saw Maynooth Education Campus crowned champions.

There was a crazy whirlwind start to the match, with Maynooth blitzing Scoil Mhuire with four goals inside 5 minutes. Although shell shocked, the Trim team did not throw in the towel and fought back with scores from Aoife Carey; Robyn Larkin; Michelle Brien; Kerrie Cole; Gracie Grehan, to leave only 3 points between the teams at half time.

Trim: 1 –07

Maynooth: 4 – 01

The second half was a ‘dogged affair’, with scores hard to come by for both sides. Scoil Mhuire did most of the attacking but found it so difficult to convert their chances, including a penalty, which was missed by inches. Maynooth broke away for an opportunist goal to push their lead to six points. But slowly, with their ‘never say die’ spirit Scoil Mhuire fought back with scores from Michelle Brien; Bláthnaid Hughes; Anna Carey; and Gracie Grehan, to reduce the lead to 3 points. Unfortunately for Scoil Mhuire time ran out with Maynooth Education Campus beating them on a scoreline of 5-3 to 1-12.

A hard-fought match on both sides.
