Local woman Sandra Heather-Steenson has helped raise over €3,000 for Meath River Rescue since the beginning of 2024.

Sandra held two quiz night fundraisers last month for Meath River Rescue, one of which sold out in just two days, and already has two more upcoming charity events this month for the worthy organisation.

The charity events involve a quiz and raffle with prizes that were donated by local businesses and residents.

Speaking ahead of the first event, Sandra said: "I've received over 40 offers from businesses and individuals alike for donations. I am absolutely blown away by the support of the local community."

Sandra's motivation for organising these fundraisers came from her admiration for the volunteers who work tirelessly in all weather conditions and follows their recent recovery of missing Navan man Sean Farrelly on 13th January.

She said: "Everything they do is volunteered. I wanted to organise these fundraisers to donate all moneys raised directly to the charity.

"I've had no expenses at all while organising the events. Every single thing has been donated, right down to the raffle tickets. I haven't had to spend anything, so the entire €3,075 goes directly to Meath River Rescue."

The support Sandra has received in regards to these events had allowed her to organise another two quiz and raffle nights this month.

One of these charity events will take place this Friday in The Balreask Arms at 8pm and the other in The Round O on the 16th February.

To book a slot, you can ring the venues directly. It is €10 ahead for each person and booking early is recommended as spaces are limited.
