Man arrested following fatal assault in Kilcock

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of an investigation into the fatal assault of a man in Kilcock yesterday.

He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Kildare.

Gardaí are investigating the fatal assault that occurred between 3pm and 4pm on Thursday 8th February 2024 at a residence on School Street in Kilcock, County Kildare.

A man in his 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A post-mortem examination is being conducted this morning at the mortuary at Naas General Hospital by State Pathologist Sally Ann Collis.

The scene on School Street remains preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

This investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) at Leixlip Garda Station and a Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to liaise with the family of the deceased.

Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm and observed any activity which drew their attention to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
