Former Cavan journalist declares for Europe

Former Cavan journalist and later Midlands correspondent for RTÉ, Ciaran Mullooly, has declared himself a candidate in the Midlands-North West constituency at the upcoming European elections.

"I am delighted to announce that I have accepted an invitation from Michael Fitzmaurice TD to be a candidate for his party in the forthcoming European elections, and my goal is to take a seat in the Midlands-North West constituency," said Mr Mullooly, who used to work for the Cavan Leader newspaper, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

After retiring from RTÉ in 2021, Mr Mullooly took on a role as a community development and social enterprise worker with Roscommon Leader Partnership.

Earlier this year he moved to a tourism and economic development role with Longford County Council.
