Sewerage bubbling onto street in Trim
Residents of Trim who have endured sewerage pouring out onto the street from a storm drain for months are angry that neither Uisce Eireann or Meath County Council have done anything to alleviate the problem.
"The stench is disgusting and it has been going on since before Christmas", according to one local resident.
"The sewerage bubbles up from a storm drain into the street.
"People are walking through sewerage and in very wet weather, it forms into puddles which passing traffic splash up onto the path and pedestrians.
"It was happening constantly around Christmas, January and February. It is less frequent now, but is still happening. Just yesterday (Tuesday), it was bubbling up.
"On one occasion, the sewerage 'exploded' out of the storm drain with such ferocity it left toilet paper three or four foot up the side of a building."
He said that with the more recent drier weather, it is happening less frequently, but it is still happening.
"One sunny days, the smell is revolting. It absolutely stinks all the time. I have made so many phonecalls to Irish Water and Meath County Council but it hasn't been sorted out. I cannot believe that it it has been going on for so long."
Meath County Council and Uisce Eireann have been approached for comment.
