Further extensions to town bus service sought demanded
A CALL for the Navan town Bus Service to be extended to Balgill, Bective, Ardsallagh and The Borallion was made at last week's meeting of Navan Town Council.
Meath Co Council, Cathaoirleach, Cllr Tommy Reilly called for the service to be extended out to Balgill on the Trim Road, Bective, Ardsallagh, Cannistown and The Borallion.
"This is a loop with over 200 houses on it and if we want to make a real and proper difference in terms of emissions and our environment and get cars out of our towns, this is the way forward,” he said.
He said major improvements were made to the public transport network with the opening of a new bus interchange on Kennedy Road, but further extension of the town service is vital in order to make the service more accessible and sustainable.
“We have a great town bus service but it has to be extended to these areas in order to facilitate residents. There are a lot of older people and families living in these areas and they would take a bus in to town if the service was available to them,” he added.
It was agreed the Council will write to Transport For Ireland calling for the extension and Cllr reilly said he has written to Minister Eamon Ryan regarding extending the service to these areas as soon as possible.
