Meath adopting EVs faster than national average - report

County Meath is adopting electric vehicles (EVs) at a pace surpassing the national average, recent data from Cartell reveals. This positions the county as a leader in EV adoption across Ireland.

In 2023, Meath ranked second only to Wicklow in terms of EV adoption. The county registered 1,046 EVs, slightly fewer than petrol vehicles, with petrol hybrids and diesels following. Remarkably, Meath, as the 8th most populous county, is outperforming in EV sales, which constituted 25.1% of its total vehicle sales—a figure significantly higher than the typical 10-20% seen in other regions.

Wesley Littleford, Commercial Operations Manager at Cartell, highlighted that the Leinster region, especially counties around Dublin, is rapidly adopting EVs and hybrids. “It’s heartening to see Meath and its neighbouring counties taking early steps towards electric vehicles, thus spearheading the movement towards the country’s sustainability objectives.”
