Ashbourne Film Festival to feature local talent and artists

Ashbourne will hold its second film festival on Saturday 25th May that will feature new short film selections, screenings, Q&As and special guests.

The one day event will take place in the Vue Cinema, Ashbourne from 10am to late.

The ACI (Ashbourne Community Initiative) along with William Palmer Music & Entertainment Ltd, SiuySiu Productions Ltd, with support from McGroddy Brennan LLP and TrinitySeven Studio Ltd will host this very special one day festival.

This fun festival will feature new short film selections from the Ashbourne Film Festival competition, there will also be screenings of award winning short films ‘The Knackerman’ (Tom Shrapnel), ‘Strange Weather’ (starring Maxine Peake) and 'The PageTurner’ written and directed by Ashbourne local Siúbhán Ní Ghríofa. This film has been part funded by Meath County Council and filming took place on location in Meath and Galway.

Another screening taking place is a beautiful short film ‘Return to Skye’ by Kurt Rosenburg. Kurt and his team recorded the music here in Ireland with the William Palmer Orchestra (WPME Orchestra) who have recently participated in Ashbourne based workshops.

The Dublin String Quartet, along with renowned oboist David Agnew will be performing live film music.

Along with screenings and Q&As there will also be talks with special guest Lex Shrapnel (actor from films ‘Captain America: First Avenger’, ‘K-19 The Widowmaker’) and Tom Shrapnel (writer & director).

Special guest Stephen Rennicks (film composer for ‘An Cailín Ciùin’, ‘Room’, ‘Normal People’) will also be giving a talk on his role as a film composer. A screening of Academy Award nominated feature film ‘An Cailín Ciúin’ will close the festival. Refreshments will also be available courtesy of ‘Camille Thai’ in the evening.
