First Irish solo show for Kathy Kelly in Kells
There is nothing like home, and that’s why Kathy Kelly from the world-famous Kelly Family is delighted to return to Ireland in the June bank holiday weekend to give her first Irish solo performance in St. Columba’s Church in Kells, in aid of Purple House Cancer Support in Bray.
Being the eldest sibling in an Irish family band that was extremely successful and well-known all over Europe especially in the 1990s, selling over 20 million albums and with a big comeback tour between 2017 and 2019, Kathy has travelled the world but always felt drawn back to her home country.
The multi-faceted singer, musical producer, arranger, instrumentalist and soloist’s great-grandfather left Ireland from county Cork on a ship heading for America during the Famine with nothing but a violin. After living a short while in both the West and East coast of Ireland with her family in the late 1970s, Kathy eventually returned in the 90s to live in her family’s county of origin for a number of years.
Although the family band performed a few shows in Ireland in the 70s and 90s and appeared on RTE’s Late Late show twice, Kathy has never performed as a solo artist here, despite having built up an impressive solo career with an extensive range of musical genres including traditional folk music from Ireland, Spain and various other countries.
But that is about to change. The ‘Grande Dame of Gospel and Folk’ will mesmerise us with her beautiful, soulful voice and captivating musical performance along with the Shooting Stars choir from Dunshaughlin and pianist Ronan Murray on 1st June in St. Columba’s Church in Kells, at 7.30pm.
Music is her life, and besides traditional folk music, Kathy has a passion for classical music, flamenco, gospel and opera. All that, along with popular music as well as several of her own compositions, means there is something for everyone. So don’t miss it, get your tickets now and support a very worthwhile charity while enjoying an inspiring night out with family and friends.
