Counsel shows his consistency as he triumphs in various events

Michael Counsel enjoyed a very successful few days of racing recently at the Leinster Masters Championships in Carlow.

On Saturday the Trim AC runner ran 4.51.95 to win the M55 category in 1,500m. On Sunday he kept the winning streak going with an impressive 2.11.97 victory in the M55 800m.

On Tuesday evening Counsel clinched the Leo McKenna Memorial trophy for the third successive year when winning the M55 grade of the Na Fianna 5km.

Another Trim athlete Quinton Bourke was in action on Sunday in the M45 5000m and he earned his first ever provincial championship medal with his time of 18.04 taking him into silver medal position.

Caoimhe Rowe ran 66.70 for 4th place in the Sen.400m hurdles and Stas Zielinski was 5th in the U20 800m running 2.03.10.

On the roads there was success for the Trim club at the Culmullen five-mile road race. Tom Feeley ran 27.17 for 1st overall and top M40 finisher. In the M50 grade Sean Murphy returned to winning ways with an impressive category winning time of 29.22.

Pat Corcoran was 2nd M60 in 32.22. the other Trim results were Darren Maher, 30.30; Paul Smith, 40.33; Michelle Geoghegan, 42.34.

In other road action Nessa Maguire followed up her good run last Tuesday in Johnstownbridge when she went to the north of the county for the new Wilkinstown 5km finishing 4th in her age group clocking 21.32.

Robert Tobin took on the Wicklow Barkleys endurance mountain running event on Saturday He completed 65.69km with 2368m of altitude gain in the valley around Lough Dan.

Well done to all our athletes on their efforts representing the club at these events and at the Na Fianna 5k earlier in the week.

The next race on the local calendar will be the Star of the Sea 5km in Stamullen. Registrations are still open and the race HQ will be at St Patrick's GAA club. A great nights racing lies in store.
