Fal’s Nails, Beauty & Piercings is a one lady Beautician and Nail technician business based in Robinstown. Proprietor Falynn Mackey began her self-employment journey in 2014 when she rented a small room to offer treatments and remained working in that space for two years, taking on her first employee. From there, she opened a salon for six years and then Covid hit and the beauty industry really suffered. It was then time to reinvent herself so she bought a cabin that she now works out of fulltime - her sanctuary. Falynn’s husband plays a huge role in the business too through support for Falynn and providing and anchor and guidance when things are tough as business can be very unpredictable and sometimes get overwhelming. Fal’s offers a wide range of treatments from nails, brows, tanning, waxing and now piercings. “I adore my job, I’m always re-educating, watching videos or anything that can keep me up to date with new trends. I have 200 colours to choose from and an endless supply of glitter and bling.”

Describe the best thing about your service

I offer one-to-one service. Your time is my time so it’s precious. I listen to client’s ideas on designs and if they are undecided, that’s what I love the most because a design always comes up after a consultation and chat about what they have in mind. My environment is a safe, private and confidential space.

What's the best business advice you've ever been given?

You’ll learn every day. Running a business is the hardest job - you do not stop. You’re always advertising, replying to appointments or changing appointments.

Even though it is a strong and often challenging role to have, there are so many rewards that come with it. My clients always leave smiling, they are happy with their service and that is what makes me love my business.

What does the future hold for your business?

I have no idea what the future has in store, but I have a vision in my head and I would love for my business to keep growing and eventually find a space to train technicians in the nail industry.
