Navan-based powerlifters set new world records

Peggy Biala and Margie Reynolds Shine at WDFPF World Championships in Aalsmeer

The World Drug Free Powerlifting Federation (WDFPF) World Championships held in Aalsmeer, The Netherlands from 31st May to 2nd June witnessed remarkable performances from two extraordinary Navan-based athletes, Peggy Biala and Margie Reynolds.

Both women, training at DROC Strength and Mobility in Navan, set new world records in their respective categories, solidifying their positions as top competitors in the sport of powerlifting.

Peggy Biala: World Squat Record

"Peggy Biala, known for her relentless dedication and remarkable strength, made history by setting a new world record in the squat. Competing in the Masters 2 category under 110 kg this was Peggy's second World Championships. After winning her first World Championships in 2022 in France," explained DROC coach Darragh Creamer.

"She took a year off but returned and her record-breaking squat of 141.5kg not only demonstrated her exceptional physical strength but also her mental fortitude and discipline, attributes honed through rigorous training at DROC Strength and Mobility.

Peggy, 42, the mother of two sons, has been training with her Creamer for close to four years and is one of the founding members of the DROC Powerlifting team.

Margie Reynolds: World Deadlift Record

Margie Reynolds, 62, is another powerhouse from DROC Strength and Mobility, made her mark by setting a European record in the squat and a world record in the deadlift. Margie is a relative newcomer to powerlifting, having made her competitive debut in 2023.

"She set Irish records earlier this year on her journey to the record-breaking performance that was a highlight of the championships," added Creamer. "Her success in the deadlift category is a reflection of her unwavering commitment to the sport and the high-calibre training she receives at DROC.

"Margie’s path to world-record status has been paved with dedication and a relentless pursuit of improvement. The training environment at DROC, known for its focus on strength and mobility, has played a crucial role in her development as a top-tier powerlifter. Margie's record is not just a personal triumph but also a proud moment for the entire DROC community.
