Kildalkey returned to the winners enclosure at the Cumann na mBunscol finals for the first time since 2019 as they claimed the Div 1/2 Shield with a resounding victory over Cannistown at Trim on Saturday.

Kildalkey were the dominant side in the opening half and could even afford to hit a dozen sides in that spell and still lead by 10 points at the break.

After hitting an early wide Kildalkey opened the scoring after 45 seconds with Lucas Heverin on target.

Jack Carroll doubled that lead 40 seconds later, but six wides in the first six minutes kept Cannistown in the game.

Lucas Heverin settled Kildalkey with a point from a free and after Cathal McCarthy did brilliantly to deflected a Daithi Birmingham shot out for a '45' Samuel Dolan added the resultsant score to make it 0-4 to 0-0.

Ciaran Burke got Cannistown off the mark from a free, but two points from Lucas Heverin and Daithi Birmingham sandwiched a scrambled goal from Birmingham as Kildalkey led by 1-8 to 0-1 at the interval.

It didn't take Kildalkey long to resume control with Cillian Davis forcing Cathal McCarthy into another fine save.

Finn Kenny and Jack Carroll stretched the winners lead with points before Samuel Dolan drove a low free to the net for Kildalkey's second goal. Another point for Finn Kenny was followed by a goal from Cillian Davis as Kildalkey made it 3-11 to 0-1.

Cannistown did enjoy more luck in the closing stages with Hannah McKeigue defending superbly and Seamus McKeigue and Callum Craig adding impetus to their attack.

Lucas Heverin and Ciaran Burke traded frees before Callum Craig fired a great goal and Tom Hayes added a late point for Cannistown, but there was no stopping Kildalkey.
