Tolan discusses priorities for Meath with Taoiseach

Meath County Council Cathaoirleach, Cllr Sharon Tolan met with Taoiseach Simon Harris to discuss her priorities for Meath for the next five years

She told the Taoiseach that affordable housing in Meath was a priority but "ensuring there are local jobs, sustainable transport links and active travel solutions for our growing communities must be a parallel focus."

Cllr Tolan was among eight Fine Gael councillors currently serving as chairpersons and Mayors in local authorities nationwide that met with the Taoiseach in Government buildings yesterday evening.

Cllr Tolan said: “I was delighted to have this opportunity to meet with and speak directly to An Taoiseach Simon Harris.

“As the only female Fine Gael Cathaoirleach in this term, and one of only three female Cathaoirligh, out of 31 Local Authorities nationally, female participation in politics at all levels was also an important item for discussion.

“We must do better to encourage more women to successfully challenge leadership roles.

“I want to thank the Taoiseach for taking the time to meet us as a group and to hear what councillors intend to deliver on behalf of the people of Meath.

“It was also very positive that we got to engage with senior Fine Gael Ministers and to raise matters relative to their portfolios,” Councillor Tolan concluded.

Taoiseach Simon Harris said: “I was delighted to meet with Councillor Tolan to discuss the work ahead in delivering for communities in Meath.

“We had positive engagement and our councillors intend to build on the progress made with a with a set of priorities that will guide our work over the next five years. These include more ambition on housing, backing small businesses and enterprise, better public services and infrastructure and healthy and sustainable communities.

“I look forward to the work of the Fine Gael team in delivering on the shared ambition we have to improve peoples’ lives,” the Taoiseach concluded.
