Meath Co Council want the people of Navan people to take a survey on the transport issues affecting them

Council seeking feedback from Navan residents on transport issues in the town

The people of Navan are being asked their opinions on transport and traffic in the town as Meath County Council prepares to develop a Local Transport Plan (LTP).

Councillors are urging the public to respond to a questionnaire on transport issues includes public transport, roads and traffic as well as pedestrian and cycle facilities. This survey will ask respondents about travel habits in Navan, and what they think works well and what should be improved.

Cllr Yemi Adenuga is encouraging everyone over the age of 16 to complete this survey.

"There is no point giving out about traffic or inadequate transportation in the town if you don’t take this chance to highlight the challenges you face and make suggestions about how to make this better.

"On a regular basis, I am contacted by university students and their parents about late, delayed or no-show buses, causing students to miss classes or be late to classes in Maynooth, Dundalk or Dublin. It is therefore important for students and their parents to complete this survey too in order to know the precise transport support they need and how to meet the need.

"The survey has questions on driver, pedestrian and cyclist experience on the road, and also on street lights, traffic and transport. I will also encourage everyone to use the interactive map to add feedback on transport in specific areas in Navan.

"For example, the map has given me a change to add feedback on several places like Rathholdren road which needs parking for greenway users, has a very narrow and dangerous footpath and non-existent cyclelane from Abbeygrove Estate to Clonmaggadden. Cars speed dangerously in Conmagadden and access to the greenway needs to be prioritized, among many other things.

The Mayor of Navan, Cllr Eddie Fennessy said how we move around Navan has completely transformed over recent years.

"There's always room for improvement and the council's survey provides the public with an opportunity to influence and to refine how sustainable transport services are delivered across the town.”

Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons also encouraged the public to participate in the process. "The more people that participate the better and I look forward to seeing the results.

"The questions seem to be very focused on the town centre. I would have also liked to see more questions about the outskirts of the town and about an orbital route," he said.

The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and is open up to and including Friday. You must be aged 16 or older to complete this survey and all responses are anonymous. There is a map-based survey to allow more specific comments to be made.

Meanwhile, The Navan Cycling Initiative will be presenting the Mayor with their petition to connect the Boyne Valley to Lakeland Greenway to Navan town on 17th July.

The petition calls for a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists between the town centre and the greenway.

It states: "The lack of access is not just annoying; it's a barrier preventing many from enjoying one of our region's most beautiful resources. This issue affects both locals and tourists alike - limiting our options for outdoor activities and impacting local tourism."
