Trim Town FC grounds targeted by vandals in vehicle that smashed fencing and signage

Gardai are investigating after a vehicle smashed through a Trim soccer club's grounds on Friday night (12th July), wrecking sponsors' signage with only a concrete post preventing the offender from causing further damage to the pitches.

The shocking incident happened at Trim Town FC pitches which is also home to the Trim Town Academy on the Longwood road where UEFA qualified coaching is made available to up to 100 boys and girls.

A statement by the Trim Town Academy read:

"We are absolutely shocked and saddened that somebody has caused the destruction they have overnight to our playing facility. A club that has been setup to ensure no child in locality of Trim and surrounding areas goes without access to football, has been attacked in such cruel fashion.

"Some coward and vandal felt the need to drive through the gates, intent on causing harm and destruction. We rely on the local businesses of Trim to help us improve our playing facilities, through their generous sponsorship we have improved the Longwood road to no end. Now those sponsors have had their signs destroyed.

"The coward was intent on destroying the pitch, but was stopped at the fence by a post. This facility is used daily by over a 100 kids to train and all we want for them is to be proud of their club, like we are to have them as members.

"The Gardai have been on site and we appeal for anyone with any information to contact Trim Garda station.

Commenting on the Trim Town Academy FB page, one club member wrote: "Devastated for the committee who have put hundreds of hours into rebuilding this club. Fencing and signage all built and fitted by our members. Concrete poured by club men. Gravel and car park laid, sponsorship from Trim businesspeople. We will be back."

Another said: Absolutely shocking. Whoever is responsible should be ashamed of themselves. A lot of people have spent so much time and effort to have this facility up and running right on the edge of the town for some many of the adults and children to enjoy their football. Absolutely shocking.
