Gilsenan goal secures promotion for Moynalty

A FL DIV 5 SEMI-FINAL

Jude Gilsenan's goal three minutes into the second period proved decisive as Moynalty claimed promotion to Div 4 and a place in the A FL Div 5 final with a hard earned 1-15 to 1-11 semi-final win over Kilmainhamwood in Drumconrath last night.

Kian Gillespie did manage to keep Kilmainhamwood in the game with a late goal, but Moynalty finished strong to claim the spoils.

Moynalty started well with six points in succession from James Cassidy and Paddy Byrne putting them in the driving seat. Kilmainhamwood got on the scoreboard from a Rian Stafford free and after a crucial interception by Killian Russell prevented a goal it sparked Kilmainhamwood into life as they closed the gap to 0-7 to 0-8 at half-time with Stafford, Gillespie and Eoin Finnegan on target in response to a brilliant point from Moynalty's John Brogan.

However Moynalty quickly took a firm grip on proceedings after the resumption as Paul Lynch hit the post, but Gilsenan was on hand to fire the rebound to the net.

Stafford replied with a point for Kilmainhamwood, but with Liam Brogan excelling at the back and Johnny Lynch making a crucial late save Moynalty maintained their lead and extended their advantage with Paddy Byrne and James Cassidy impressive.

Gillespie's goal for Kilmainhamwood closed the gap to three, but Moynalty were not to be denied.
