TV music series "Other voices" to come to Slane next year

Plans are underway to bring the iconic TV music series "Other voices" to Slane next year.

Cllr Wayne Harding has said that the possibility of bringing "Other Voices" to Slane is becoming a reality after a very successful meeting between Slane tourism and CE of Meath County Council, Kieron Keogh this week.

The chief executive has committed to the project for the now new February bank Holiday weekend with more work on the plans due to go ahead over the coming weeks.

For over 20 years, the hallowed, humble, crumbling walls of the 200 year-old St. James Church in Dingle, Co. Kerry have played host to Other Voices, the seminal music TV series recorded in early December in the small fishing town.

Over the years, Other Voices has welcomed some of the world’s most eclectic music-makers and captured on film scores of unique, one-off live performances.

Amy Winehouse's iconic performance for Other Voices in 2006 has been featured in many documentaries about the tragic singer with the performance deemed as one of her best.

"Other voices", is now in existence for over two decades and from it's start in Dingle it has spread its wings and all involved believe that Slane is an ideal location for the concept where Slane castle and all hospitality outlets and community spaces will be utilised to bring a celebration of music to the village for two days in early February," said Cllr Harding.

" It is great that Slane tourism have become involved as they are a very progressive group and there is obvious tourism benefits for this festival. In year one there will be at least 2500 visitors with relative bed stays throughout the region," he added
