Man (20s) killed after single car crash on Trim/Navan Road

A man in his 20s has died following a single-vehicle collision on the Trim to Navan Road last night, marking the third road death in the county in less than six hours.

Shortly before 10pm, gardaí and emergency services responded to a single-vehicle collision on the R161 Trim to Navan Road at Philpotstown near Navan.

The driver and sole occupant of the car, a man in his 20s, was treated at the scene and brought by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The scene has been preserved overnight, and local traffic diversions are in place pending examination this morning by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The local Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling on the R161 road between Navan and Trim, Co. Meath, between 9:30pm and 10pm on Sunday, 28th July 2024, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

His death was the third on the roads in the county yesterday - just before 5pm, two men in their 30's were killed in a collision involving three motorbikes on the Castlepollard to Oldcastle Road.

Two other men were hurt in the crash, one of them seriously.

The tragedy occurred at around 4.40pm at Bellaney, Oldcastle. Two males aged in their 30s were pronounced deceased at the scene.

One man was conveyed to hospital for treatment for serious injuries, while another man is being treated for injuries, believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
