August Craft Month, a month-long celebration of local craft across the island of Ireland, launches with a host of exciting events taking place throughout Meath.

The programme provides unmissable opportunities to experience, participate in, support, buy and learn about the local stand-out craft sector.

Two of the local workshops will take place in the Deepark Community Hub, Carlanstown. A Kimono Making Workshop takes place this Friday, 2nd August from 9.45am to 4.30pm where participant will learn to cut, sew and finish a kimono from a commercial pattern. The fee is €150. A Lampshade Making workshop takes place on Saturday 10th August from 10am to 12.30pm. This two and half hour workshop is perfect for beginners to learn the craft of contemporary lampshade making. Create a 30cm drum lampshade using fabric of your choice. Choose from fabric provided or bring your own if you wish. No sewing skills are required for this workshop. Fee €65. A Create an Irish Woodland Lantern workshop takes place in Anita Reynolds' studio at Shanco, Ballivor on Saturday 24th August from 2pm to 5pm. Anita will have a pottery workshop for up to 12 people in her studio, in a fun relaxed event suitable for all abilities, making ceramic lanterns.

Each lantern will be decorated with imprints of native Irish leaves picked in her garden.

Each participant will add the name of their chosen tree in Irish using Anita's wooden Gaelic font used by her father and grandfather in their printing business.
