Clonee-Dunboyne pop star, Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson (CMAT) has been shortlisted for the 2024 Mercury Prize for her album ‘Crazymad, for Me’.

The singer-songwriter released her album in October 2023 on AWAL Recordings. Some singles in her album include ‘Have Fun!’, ‘Where Are Your Kids Tonight?’ and ‘Stay for Something’.

The Mercury Prize recognizes and celebrates UK and Irish music and artistic achievements with nominees ranging from well-established artists to new and emerging ones.

Reacting to the nomination, the 28-year-old said: “The M in CMAT stands for Mercury Prize. What an absolute delight I cannot believe it! I feel like Cinderella!!!

“Thank you so much @mercuryprize I appreciate this so much. It is so wildly exciting and genuinely unexpected. I could not be any happier than I am in this moment.”

The singer-songwriter is one of 12 artists nominated for the 2024 Mercury Prize. Charli XCX is among the shortlisted artists for her sixth album ‘BRAT’ which was just released in June this year. Other nominees include The Last Dinner party and Beth Gibbons.

Previous Mercury Prize winners include Ezra Collective, Little Simz and Arlo Parks.

CMAT was recently nominated for her first ever Brit Awards already this year. The winner of the Mercury Prize 2024 will be announced in September and will take home a specially commissioned ‘Album of the Year’ trophy along with a cash prize of £25,000.
