Libby named as Woodie's Heroes charity ambassador

A Kells woman has been announced as an ambassador for the Woodie’s Heroes charity, which marks its 10th anniversary,

ISPCC Childline volunteer Elizabeth (Libby) Donlon-Fox is an ambassador in this year's fundraising initiative. The Woodie’s Heroes 2024 campaign, running from now until 10th August, aims to raise essential funds for four Irish children's charities: ISPCC Childline, Down Syndrome Ireland, Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, and Children’s Health Foundation.

Libby has been a dedicated Childline volunteer for over a decade providing a safe and supportive space for children to express themselves. The support from Woodie’s Heroes initiative will fund the ongoing training of Childline volunteers, ensuring they can continue to take calls from children who need someone to listen.

“I was very fortunate to have a safe and happy upbringing, so I wanted to give back and help others and make others feel listened to - a safe pair of ears," Libby explains. "You’re there to be a soundboard for these children, offering that listening ear means so much. We give a space for a child to laugh, cry, or vent about whatever is going on for them at that time. It’s so fulfilling and allows you to help others and truly make a difference. If you had the opportunity to make a child’s life better, why wouldn’t you take it? I have witnessed the power of listening to a young person and the way they can feel such relief from just sharing their story."

Woodie’s CEO Damien Dwyer says: “This 10th anniversary of the Woodie’s Heroes campaign is a very significant year for us. Thanks to the support of our dedicated colleagues, generous customers, and valued suppliers, we have raised €3.6 million for Woodie's Heroes over the years and made a meaningful difference to Irish children's charities. We would love 2024 to be our biggest year yet so these charities can continue to make an impactful change in people's lives. Please help us support Woodie's Heroes from now until 10th August.”
