Men’s Shed continues search for new home

Navan and District Men's Shed, who have been extremely busy in recent weeks creating a sensory garden for Prosper Meath, making owl nesting boxes, getting involved in Feile na Paisti and making planters and bird boxes for various local organisation, are also making huge efforts to raise funds to erect their own shed.

"We currently operate out of old container with a leaking roof in the grounds of Claremont Stadium," chairperson, Ollie Carroll, explains.

"Claremont stadium have been very good to us and are providing a site for us, but we needs funds to erect the shed.

"We have held bucket collections in the town, which were very well supported, a table quiz and recently sold some of our planters and bird boxes to help raise funds.

"We are appealing to businesses in the town to make donations to help us provide a permanent home for our activities. Every donation will be gratefully appreciated," he said.

Navan Men's Shed is a very inclusive environment catering for men from all walks of life, ages and abilities.

The Shed movement is known for its very positive impact on mental health and the Navan Shed is no exception, providing a safe and inclusive group where men can talk and work on interests and hobbies they enjoy.

They are always looking for new volunteers to join their group and invite any interested to attend their meetings on Fridays between 2-4pm at Claremont Stadium.

Among the recent projects they have undertaken is creating a sensory garden at Claremont Stadium for Prosper Meath, which, when completed will provide day activities for adults with disabilities.

They are also creating owl nesting boxes which will be placed around the country so conservationists can monitor the birds.

Shed members regularly create flower boxes and other planters as well as bird boxes for local organisations and recently got involved with Feile na Paisti to teach and encourage young people how to plant flowers, shrubs and vegetables.

They have rowed in behind the local branch of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland and will help them with their Church Gate Collection this weekend.

"We are very grateful to all the groups, businesses and individuals who have offered support," said Ollie.

Chadwicks in Navan recently donated a very much appreciated load of timber which Navan Shed are now using in their various projects.

"We are very busy, but there is so much more we could do, if we had a proper shed, " he said.

"We are appealing to the public and particularly local businesses to help us achieve our goal of erecting our own shed."
