O'Rourke selected for SF in Meath East

Sitting TD Darren O'Rourke, has been selected to contest the next General Election for Sinn Féin in Meath East.

Speaking after the selection convention, Deputy O'Rourke thanked the local Sinn Féin organisation in Meath East for their support.

"It has been my incredible privilege to represent the people and constituency of Meath East as their TD since February 2020. "Through our constituency offices in Ashbourne, Kells and Duleek and our involvement in the community, our team of councillors and local activists have worked very hard to fight for our communities and for our county. That effort was rewarded at the recent Local Elections, with Sinn Féin returning with a strengthened mandate and councillors in each of the Municipal Districts in the Meath East constituency.

"I am very grateful for that support and happy to be part of the Meath East Sinn Féin team. We will work hard to build on that progress in the upcoming General Election.

He explained the Meath East constituency will now be a four seat constituency with the re-inclusion of north and parts of East Meath. "While it is a new constituency, the challenges remain the same - in housing, health, cost-of-living, and elsewhere.

"In addition, the Meath East constituency has seen very significant population growth, but government have failed in their duty to ensure that that growth was matched with essential public and community infrastructure and services.

"The people of Meath East deserve better than that. I hope to have the opportunity to continue to fight their corner after the next General Election, and to see our communities thrive and reach their full potential.

"In the meantime, we will continue to work hard. I am very grateful for the Sinn Féin nomination and I look forward to the campaign ahead."
