Child rushed to hospital with serious injuries after assault in Co Cork

A child has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after an assault in Co Cork.

Gardaí were called to a disturbance at a home in Charleville on Monday night.

They observed “considerable criminal damage” to a vehicle and a home on the New Line shortly before midnight.

A girl was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital before being transferred to Temple Street.

She is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

The scene of the incident was preserved, and a technical examination has since been conducted by the Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

They have asked witnesses or anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the New Line in Charleville town between 10pm and midnight to get in touch.

A spokesman said: “Additionally, any persons with camera footage (including dash-cam footage) from the area at the time are encouraged to provide it to investigating gardai.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station at 022 31450, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.”
