Yellow wind warning issued for 11 counties

A status yellow wind warning has been issued for all of Munster, as well as Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois, Wexford and Wicklow, by Met Éireann.

The wind warning comes into force at midnight and will remain in force until 6am on Friday.

Met Éireann warns of the risk of coastal flooding due to very high tides.

There is also the risk of power outages, fallen trees, loose debris on roads and wave over-topping.

For Thursday, there is a yellow rain warning for Clare, Galway, Roscommon, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath.

The rain warning for the eight counties is valid from 10pm on Thursday until 4am on Friday.

Met Éireann warns of localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

Thursday will see cloud and rain will return to the west and southwest this afternoon, spreading elsewhere this evening and turning heavy in parts.

Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees with mostly moderate west to southwest winds.

Overnight will see spot flooding in places. It will turn very windy for a time in parts of the south and east overnight, with strong to gale force and gusty southerly winds developing, gradually veering west to northwest and decreasing fresh to strong.

Friday will bring a mix of sunny spells and showers. The showers will be mainly in the west at first, but they will spread elsewhere in the afternoon, and some of them will be heavy with isolated thunderstorms and the chance of hail, especially in the west and north.

Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees.
