Five people arrested after 19 petrol bombs seized in Kildare

Five men have been arrested after gardaí recovered a total of 19 petrol bombs from a car they had stopped in Co Kildare.

Four men were arrested when detective gardaí attached to Leixlip Garda Station intercepted the car in the Carbury area at approximately 11.30pm.

As they were carrying out the operation, gardaí were confronted by a fifth man, in his late 40s, who was armed with a knife.

He was arrested, has since been charged, and appeared before a sitting of Naas District Court this morning.

“Four adult males were subsequently arrested and are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Co Kildare,” a garda spokesperon said this afternoon.

Gardaí said the operation was carried out as part of ongoing investigations targeting organised criminal activity in Co Kildare.

“Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will follow,” gardaí added.
