Slane Castle blocks public access with only privately booked guest permitted to grounds

Slane Castle will be closed to the public going forward with only those part of privately booked events permitted to access the estate's grounds.

A statement from Alex Conyngham, Managing Director of Slane Castle on the official website outlined how the new model would operate, confirming that access to the grounds of Slane Castle will be exclusively available to guests and visitors attending private tours or ticketed events only from now on.

The popular Browne’s Bar and the Gandon Room Restaurant will be available for private bookings only and will no longer accommodate walk-ins or individual table reservations.

In addition, all tours will now require pre-booking through the Slane Castle team with a minimum booking fee of €150 applying for up to six visitors. Additional visitors will be charged at €15 each.

Meanwhile Slane Irish Whiskey Distillery is now only offering tours to privately pre-booked groups.

The statement added that there was currently no update with regards to a large concert at Slane Castle in 2025.

The castle will continue to host its 'Afternoon Tea' events together with a selection of Spanish-themed Dining events. It will also continue as a wedding venue.

In addition, Alex and team will soon be introducing a newly renovated 5-bedroom apartment for self-catering to full-board stays.

"We understand that some of these changes may not suit everyone’s preferences," said Alex Conyngham.

"Nevertheless, we remain committed to delivering a series of exciting events throughout the year and look forward to welcoming our friends and neighbours to Slane Castle," he added.
