Revenue seize 1.44 million cigarettes in Co Meath
Revenue officers have seized 1,440,000 cigarettes in Co. Meath with an estimated value of €1.2m.
The cigarettes, branded ‘Richmond’, were seized as a result of 'risk profiling' and represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €949,000. A man in his 30s has been questioned and investigations are ongoing.
A Revenue spokesperson said the seizure "is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy.
"If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295."
