Navan Pride donations to local charities

The huge success of this year's Navan Pride festival has seen two local charities receive generous donations.

The committee who run the festival promised that 10per cent of all funds raised from public and private sponsors this year would go to local charities.

Last year Navan Pride selected SOSAD Ireland to be its charity partner. This year it chose two local charities in Meath Women's Refuge and Meath River Rescue. Each of the charities were presented with cheques of €850 in recent weeks.

Navan Pride co-chair Patrick Lawlor said: "As an organisation, we have always wanted to give back to the good in our local community, and we are delighted to be able to help two amazing charities.

"Meath River Rescue have such a difficult job to do and often they have to work in treacherous conditions when the weather turns bad to find people who have gone missing in our waterways. The quiet courage their members show year in year out deserves to be recognised and we at Navan Pride are just thrilled to be able to help with their funding in some small way.

"Likewise, the vulnerable women of our town are given a safe haven when all may seem lost for them, thanks to Meath Women's Refuge. Domestic violence remains a plague of modern times, and the refuge team do incredible work, so we are so happy to have collaborated with Frances Howarth and the team this year and to be able to help them by donating a portion of our funds raised this year.

"Navan Pride will be back bigger and better next year, with another line-up of eclectic events and of course, our colourful. We hope the community can all join in next year's parade where we can all walk together."
