Duleek AFC teams all set for big NERL showdowns

This weekend a number of teams will be representing Duleek Schoolboys/Girls FC in the North East Regional League cup finals - an indication of the kind of work going on at the club to develop young players.

"Three teams – our Youths, u-15s, and u-12s – are vying for silverware in what promises to be an exciting showcase of soccer amidst tough competition," explains the club's PRO Lesley Richards.

"Each team will need to briefly shift their focus, as they are also battling for the top position in their respective leagues."

Recently moves were also made to merge the various sectors underage and senior sections in Duleek.

"Recently, DSBGFC (underage) and Duleek AFC (senior) have merged to create one unified club under the Duleek AFC banner," the PRO explained.

The Duleek u-12 team will be aiming to pick up a piece of silverware at the weekend.

"This merger will ensure a smooth transition from youth to senior soccer, allowing players to remain within the club," added club chairman Martin Curran.

"The positive impact is already evident, not only in the men's first and second teams but also in the women's senior team, which has been energized by the newly established girls underage team."
