Sports clubs in Meath to benefit from new EV charge points

Nine sports clubs in Meath are to benefit from new EV charge points.

Over 220 sports clubs across Ireland are eligible to apply for funding to install new EV Chargers on their grounds for their members and visitors.

Locally St Colmcilles GAA, County Meath Golf Club, Carnaross GFC, Simonstown Gaels GFC, Drumree GAA, Navan O Mahonys GAA Club, Meath Hill GFC, Oldcastle GFC and Navan Rugby Club have all been successful in their applications with the infrastructure getting the green light for installment.

Fine Gael Cllr Sharon Tolan said that clubs ranging from golf to GAA have been deemed eligible to progress to the delivery phase of the Shared Island Sports Club EV Charging Infrastructure Scheme.

“I am delighted to see that nine clubs in Meath have progressed to the next round of this scheme,” she said.

“The scheme was open to all sports clubs associated with recognised national governing bodies,” added the Fine Gael councillor.

“NIne clubs in Meath are now eligible to move to the next stage in the process.

“The eligible clubs will be able to draw down funding for the installation of electric vehicle charging in their club grounds.”

Tolan added that it was a positive step towards increasing public EV chargers in local communities across Ireland and offers the potential for clubs to generate income from commercially attractive sites.

“It is essential that EV chargers are available throughout communities, so whether you’re dropping off the kids, watching a match, or going for a round of golf, people can now charge their EV while going about their daily lives,” she said.

“Our sports clubs are at the heart of our community, so it’s great to see the positive impact they are having on Meath by taking part in this scheme.
