The group that took part in the Ballymun Recovery Cycle from Ballymun to Navan and back on 31st August. They were welcomed in Navan by the Meath Community Drugs and Alcohol Response (MCDAR).

Recovery month seeks to raise awareness and understanding of substance misuse and addiction

Meath Community Drug and Alcohol Response (MCDAR) recently welcomed participants in the Ballymun Recovery Cycle to their premises in Navan. The group had cycled from Ballymun to Navan on 31st August last, a distance of 100km to raise awareness for National Overdose Prevention Day and to celebrate the start of Recovery Month which takes place during September every year.

"Recovery Month is a celebration of addiction recovery globally, where we celebrate those in our community who have recovered and acknowledge that anyone can find recovery. Recovery month seeks to raise awareness and understanding of substance misuse and addiction as well as behavioural addictions and mental health issues. Recovery is contagious and thrives within the community, here in Meath Community Drug and Alcohol Response (MCDAR) we are loud and proud this recovery month," said Joanne O'Dwyer, manager of MCDAR.

MCDAR have a number of events to mark recovery month, from recovery walks, t=recovery resources morning, Recovery through music event to name but a few. MCDAR is a community addiction service which has premises in Navan and Trim and supports individuals who have issues with substance misuse and addiction.

MCDAR runs a Recovery Cafe on a Tuesday night from 5.30pm to 7pm which is a sober space to socialise and hang out. MCDAR will be staring a Cocaine Cessation group starting the 2nd of Oct from 6pm-7.30pm, open to anyone who needs support with their cocaine use.
