Pubs, clubs and off licences up for licence renewals

A RANGE of licences dealing with the sale of alcohol were granted by Judge Eirinn McKiernan at the licensing court in Navan District Court on Friday.

A total of 88 applications were before the court, mainly for licences for pubs but also dance venues, community lotteries, arts centres and off-licences at filling stations and other locations.

The vast majority – 58 – were granted but the remainder were adjourned to 13th December to allow for a fire officer’s report to be submitted.

Restaurant and dance licence applications also have to be made to the courts.

There were no objections raised to any of the applications.

A fire officer’s report is required for licence renewals and if a licensee wishes to alter the layout of a premises then a planner’s advice will have to be commissioned.

The licensing period is from 1st October to 30th September and every licence expires on 30th September each year regardless of the issue date.

The cost of a first pub licence is €250 and the renewal cost is based on the previous turnover of the business.

A certificate granted by the local court has to be submitted to the National Excise Licence Office along with a completed application form.
