The late Brendan Brennan.

Funeral details released for Nobber man killed in road collision

A much loved 81-year-old Nobber man killed in a two-vehicle collision on the Nobber to Kingscourt road on Tuesday will be laid to rest this Sunday.

Brendan Brennan of Spiddal, Nobber died when his van was in collision with a car on the R162 Navan to Kingscourt Road, near Poles Cross on Tuesday evening.

News of Brendan's passing shocked and saddened the Nobber community where he was a hugely popular character with a smile and a kind word for everyone he met.

With his trademark cap on backwards and his dog by his side, he was a familiar face around the village. There was rarely a day you that you wouldn't see Brendan's red van parked on the street.

Despite being 81-years of age he showed no signs of slowing down and continued working doing odd jobs from blockwork and plastering to concreting and cleaning roofs and gutters for many people around the village.

Funeral arrangements for Brendan were announced this afternoon. His remains will be reposing in Kieran Brothers Funeral Home, Kingscourt, tomorrow (Friday) from 4:30 to 8pm.

Funeral Mass will take place at 11:15am on Sunday in St John the Baptist Church Nobber, with burial afterwards in local Cemetery.

Meanwhile, investigations into the collision are continuing.

The two occupants of the car involved in the collision at around 5pm on Tuesday evening were both taken to hospital by ambulance to receive medical treatment.

The scene of the collision was preserved for a time to allow a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators with the R162 Kingscourt to Nobber road closed until the following afternoon.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Any road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling between Navan and Kingscourt on Tuesday evening between 4.30pm and 5.30pm are asked to provide it to investigating Gardaí.
