Navan Shed fund-raising quiz for new premises

Navan and District Men's Shed is holding a fund-raising quiz next Friday night in The Central in Navan to raise funds for a new premises.

The event starts at 8pm and the quiz is open to tables of up to four members. The entry fee is €40 per tabe.

There will also be a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.

"We currently operate out of old container with a leaking roof in the grounds of Claremont Stadium, so we need a permanent home," chairperson, Ollie Carroll, explains.

"We are appealing for support for our quiz night, and to to businesses in the town to make donations to help us provide a permanent home for our activities. Every donation will be gratefully appreciated," he said.

Navan Men's Shed is a very inclusive environment catering for men from all walks of life, ages and abilities.

The Shed movement is known for its very positive impact on mental health and the Navan Shed is no exception, providing a safe and inclusive group where men can talk and work on interests and hobbies they enjoy.

They are always looking for new volunteers to join their group and invite anyone interested to attend their meetings on Fridays between 2-4pm at Claremont Stadium.

Among the recent projects they have undertaken is creating a sensory garden at Claremont Stadium for Prosper Meath, which will provide day activities for adults with disabilities.

Shed members regularly create flower boxes and other planters as well as bird boxes, including an Owl Box for local organisations.

"We are very busy, but there is so much more we could do, if we had a proper shed, " Mr Carroll said.

"We are appealing to the public and particularly local businesses to help us achieve our goal of erecting our own shed."
