Works continue on Enfield and Stamullen wastewater plants
Uisce Éireann says that Enfield and Stamullen are two of the Meath communities benefiting from its €436 million investment in wastewater infrastructure across the country since 2023.
The latest EPA Urban Wastewater Treatment Report shows the progress being made in tackling long-running issues like raw sewage discharges, while also underlining the need for continued investment in our essential wastewater services. In Meath, investment by Uisce Éireann has led to improved wastewater treatment in a number of communities.
Uisce Éireann is upgrading the Enfield Wastewater Treatment Plant to increase capacity and ensure environmental compliance. This project will ensure there is increased capacity available for future social and economic growth in the area and will ensure compliance with national and EU legislation.
Uisce Éireann is also progressing works to upgrade the wastewater infrastructure in Stamullen. These improvement works will address the current limited capacity by converting the existing Stamullen Wastewater Treatment Plant to a pumping station, which will pump all wastewater to Balbriggan for treatment at the wastewater treatment plant there. The rising main has also been designed to cater for flows from Gormanston in future.
The 6km of twin rising mains being installed as part of this project and the new pumping station have recently been completed. Works to decommission the old wastewater treatment plant and finalise the project are currently ongoing. This project is due for completion in 2025.
