Widespread sadness at passing of Billy O'Rourke
Members of the local soccer community and beyond have being left shocked and saddened by the unexpected passing of Oldcastle United supporter Billy O'Rourke.
Billy attended the Oldcastle United v Trim Town Gerry Reilly Memorial Cup final at the MDL grounds last night. The starting Oldcastle United eleven included his son Gary, the team's goalkeeper.
During the match it is understood Billy felt unwell and returned to his car before he was discovered unconscious.
An ambulance was called and brought Billy to hospital but it was later confirmed he had passed away.
Billy O'Rourke was a committed supporter of Oldcastle United and was a very popular figure among the players.
Today's Women's Challenge Cup final and the Reserve Cup Cup final, both of which were due to be played at the MDL, have been postponed as a mark of respect.
