Call for relief road to ease traffic congestion in Dunshaughlin
A CALL for the construction of a relief road for Dunshaughlin starting at the Willows, through Lagore to the Ratoath Road was made at a meeting of Ratoath Municipal Council last week.
Cllr Fionnan Blake called for the road, which would at the (R147), at The Willows housing estate, through The Lagore road (L5029) and joining to the Ratoath road (R125).
“Constituents are constantly contacting me about the traffic congestion and delays entering Dunshaughlin from the Dublin side. The relief road is essential for the future development of our town.
"As mentioned before by Cllr Gerry O’Connor, there are 10,000 vehicles leaving the M3 every day in order to skip the toll and driving through Dunshaughlin, adding congestion to the Main Street. I can see this problem getting worse in the new year as the government are putting the tolls up. On the Drumree Road there are over 1000 children walking up and down to school, while hundreds of trucks, buses and cars go by. It has got so dangerous due to the constant stream of heavy traffic.
"Future development is going to take place in Dunshaughlin, which is fantastic to see. I love seeing new people moving in as it strengthens the community, people joining different groups and clubs. "It’s also great to see a mix of different cultures and nationalities. Dunshaughlin is a very welcoming place, but we need proper road infrastructure, sometimes it can take up to 25 minutes to get into Dunshaughlin form the Dublin side, which is unacceptable.
He was told the Meath County Development Plan 2021-2027 provided for the road, but there were no plans to construct it in the near future.
