New plans lodged for Summerhill house

A new planning application is currently being considered by Meath County Council in relation to one of the traditional houses on the Main Street in Summerhill.

Earlier this year, plans to demolish the house and build nine apartments in its place met strong local opposition and the planning application was subsequently withdrawn.

A fresh planning application was submitted to Meath County Council for the refurbishment and an extension to the property and the construction of seven one-bed apartments to the rear in September, which was deemed incomplete and another application followed in October with the closing date for submissions this Thursday, 14th November.

The house was put up for sale in recent months and had been due to go under the hammer on 25th October but was withdrawn from auction prior to the auction date.

The selling agents say they are currently engaging with several parties through the private treaty process.

One of those opposed to the plans for the house, Jemma Fields, has also been campaigning for the house to be added to the protected structures list. Jemma, who is based in the UK, is a granddaughter of Tom and Delia Fields, the last occupants of the house.

She has welcomed an update she received from the Meath County Council which indicated that it is in the process of notifying the owner of its intention to add the building to the record of protected structures.
