The toy run is in memory of Navan boy Zak Moran who passed away in 2022 at the age of 11.

Toy donations sought in memory of Zak Moran

A charity initiative to help sick children in hospital this Christmas will take place in the coming weeks in memory of a brave young boy from Navan who passed away in 2022.

Zak’s Toy Run is inspired by Zak Moran who lost his battle against cancer at just 11 years old. Last Christmas, over 2,000 gifts were donated to the inaugural Zak's Toy Run which were then handed out to sick children in hospital.

Zak's family was overwhelmed by the response and are hoping that people will once again support the fundraiser this year. They know first hand how much receiving a gift can help cheer up a sick child in hospital.

"The huge amount of gifts donated is not just a measure of your incredible kindness but also a reminder of how truly special Zak was and how much he is loved and remembered by everyone. This means so much to us and we are really grateful to you all for your continued love, kindness and support," said Zak's dad David, following last year's event.

This year's Toy Run has been organised by Zak's friends and family, in conjunction with motorcycle clubs and groups including Devils Disciples MC, Green Demons SC, Tarbh MCC, Outkasts MCC, Meath Bike Meets, Lost Rats MCC and Holly Dennis Racing.

Supporters of the event include Smyths Toy Stores (Navan), St Paul's Primary School, St Oliver's Primary School, St Patrick's Classical School, Mother Hubbards Childcare, Oakleaves Pre School & Montessori, St Josephs Mercy Convent and Allied Irish Bank. All the schools involved are setting up individual collections and dates and information about the toy run will be available on their social media platforms.

Members of the public who would like to donate a toy to Zaks Toy Run can drop one off at Smyths Toy Stores Navan who have allocated a designated point just inside the door of the shop.

The gifts donated will be delivered on the 7th December to sick children in Temple Street Children's Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. The presents will then be handed out over the Christmas period and throughout the year.
