Wardens the best deterrent for bad parking, councillor told
Meath County Council has agreed to revisit introducing a text alert scheme to combat misuse of accessible parking bays, following a motion by Cllr Helen Meyer at the November meeting of Meath Co Council.
Previously a text alert system was in place in Navan from 2018 to 2020 to monitor parking violations but according to the council, there was low engagement from the public. The response from the council said that based on experience, warden patrol and direct observation have proven to be the most effective methods of enforcement.
"Wardens monitor all disabled parking bays and their observations indicate a high level of compliance with the requirement to display a valid permit on vehicles parked in these bays during patrol hours across Navan, Trim and Kells," it said. Cllr Meyer said the text alert system was successful in other areas and suggested it may look at introducing it again and this was agreed.
