GE2024... Standing up for the ‘locked out’ generation
A YOUNG general election candidate says she is part of the "locked-out generation of people" who see "no future" for themselves in this country thanks to previous governments.
25-year-old People Before Profit candidate for Meath East Clara McCormack is a socialist campaigner and community worker who wants to be a part of change for the island of Ireland.
"I got involved with People Before Profit through housing activism, anti-fees protests in college, and Palestine solidarity because it offers a genuine alternative to the current establishment led by Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael," she said.
"People my age are leaving the country in droves because of the cost of living and the erosion of good working conditions, while those who remain are struggling to make ends meet - yet the millionaires and billionaires in Ireland continue to enjoy record profits," she added.
"At the same time, they try to scapegoat all of society's problems onto marginalised people in our communities such as migrants and queer people - people who are not to blame."
McCormack says that there needs to be a government who will stand up for the ordinary hard working person.
"I am a renter and see no future for myself in this country unless we get rid of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael from the government, and elect a new generation of leaders who can represent the ordinary working class people of all backgrounds in Ireland," she said.
