Christmas decoration sale in support of people of Gaza
An Ashbourne couple who run a business with sustainability at its heart are donating the proceeds of their hand made Christmas decorations to help people in war torn Gaza.
The unique items from Pumpkin Lodge Crafts owned by Joe Holland and Lainey Ní Mhórdha usually help with the costs of caring for animals at their sanctuary but this time all proceeds will go to the support humanitarian efforts of Gaza go Bragh, a charity that provides relief for those affected by the ongoing human rights crisis in Gaza.
The decorations feature the words Saoirse don Phalaistín over a dove and they are crafted from carefully selected reclaimed wood and tied with twine, meaning they are a truly sustainable decoration.
"As the festive season approaches, we often find ourselves reflecting on the joys of giving and the spirit of helping those in need," said Lainey.
"We are delighted to announce our partnership with Gaza Go Brágh, an amazing organisation dedicated to providing essential aid in Gaza," she added.
"Every cent from the sale of our exclusive Saoirse don Phalaistín Christmas decorations will be donated directly to support their efforts.
"With every ornament hung on your tree, know that you are bringing light and hope to someone far away who is facing unimaginable challenges."
Pumpkin Lodge Crafts was set up in 2021 by couple Joe Holland and Lainey Ní Mhórdha, who wanted to create home decor that was sustainably made rather than mass produced.
Their first piece was made from a broken wardrobe, sparking the idea of creating items to sell.
Wanting to fully commit to their view of sustainably made products, they sourced waste wood from pallets that were being thrown away.
Signs were the first items available from Pumpkin Lodge Crafts. Pumpkins, farmhouse designs and Irish language pieces all feature in the sign collection.
Meanwhile, there was a fantastic turnout in Enfield on Tuesday 3rd December as the Santa Truck rolled into town.
The street outside Enfield Credit Union was closed to facilitate the event and even the weather couldn't dampen the Christmas Spirit.
Santa Truck is a non-profit organisation and the idea is to give people a bit of joy, a boost, and a bit of Christmas cheer and to also raise money for LauraLynn Children's Hospice. Children and families had the opportunity to visit Santa in his special grotto, meet the elves and other special guests including Frosty the Snowman, the Grinch, and Mrs Claus.
This is the fourth year that the Santa Truck has been on the road supporting LauraLynn and since 2021, a whopping €131,321.32 has been raised and it is hoped they will raise even more this year. Any donation means a lot to this charity and donations can still be made through their idonate page, 'Santa Truck 2024'.
