Enfield park toilets vandalised again
A FURTHER incident of vandalism at the public toilets in the Enfield Leisure Park on Sunday night has been reported after the door was kicked in and the toilet was smashed.
Local Cllr Padraig Coffey has condemned the latest incident and has reiterated his calls for CCTV in the area.
“They broke down the toilet door and the toilet was wrecked. It is not the first time the toilets have been vandalised. I have said before we need CCTV there and I will be pushing for it.
“The Leisure Park is off the beaten track and away from the village so there has to be some way of monitoring it."
The leisure park along the banks of the Royal Canal is maintained by the Enfield Tidy Towns group who put in a huge amount of voluntary work to keep the area.
During the summer, a picnic bench in the popular local amenity park was burnt to the ground with nothing only ashes remaining after being set alight, just days after a very successful festival in the park.
It was a hammer blow to the local group and meant much of the funds raised from the festival would be eaten up by the clean up operation.
At the time, the tidy towns group highlighted how there are ongoing incidents where attempts are made to set bits alight every other weekend.
While the Royal Canal Bank area is owned by Waterways Ireland, it is the local tidy towns group that has developed it and maintained it over the past 40 years with the help of various schemes like FAS and they still have a CE scheme.
