Letters to the Editor: Lot of wind over turbines

(Editor, Meath Chronicle),

Dear Sir - I read with interest this story and the reasons behind local disapproval. I live in Canada where we have ground based turbines in many areas.

The article states the people 'want green energy but believe turbines should be in the ocean'. This is a common comment from the 'not in my back yard' crowd.

The arguments the people have made are mostly without merit. They speak of continued noise. Yes, there will be noise during the building phase, as there would with anything being built. After they are running, there is very little sound at all. They speak of flicker. This assumes the earth does not move! Flicker is confined to a very small area and only when the sun is behind the turbine .

Visual distraction? Yes. You will see the turbines and lights on top, and be recognized for doing something positive for the environment. After a few months, you will not even notice them.

As for putting them into the ocean? Many are being put to sea .. the issue there is maintenance and repair, and also the chance of collision.

Too many people read incorrect information and do no research, which tarnishes their views.

Yours
